Meet the 2026 Maker Faire Coney Island Team!

Chief Executive Officer

I have been involved with Maker Faire Coney Island for three years now, becoming the Chief Executive Officer while being a student at Stuyvesant High School. 

I love the community Maker Faire brings together, and it’s rewarding to see Makers and visitors enjoy themselves and connect to one another. Though it’s hard work jumping around from task to task, taking care of all operations including organizing, financing, and advertising, my experience running Maker Faire each year only makes each Faire easier to execute and more successful than the last.

I’ve been a part of the Maker Faire Coney Island team for three years, currently serving as Executive Organizer and also a student at Stuyvesant high school. What makes our mission so meaningful to me goes back to my belief that education should be made as accessible as possible. When you walk into the Faire, it doesn’t matter who you were before. Everyone becomes a learner! 

As someone who’s always on the move, I aim to bring that dynamism into my work, whether it’s working on event logistics, helping to secure partnerships, leading the design team, or shaping our online presence to make the Faire better every year.

Ameena Elshaar

Vice President, Operations

This is my third year with Maker Faire. Maker Faire is such an innovative and amazing event, and I love being a part of it and interacting with such creative thinkers. As the Vice President of Operations, I hope to help Maker Faire Coney Island to a wider range of people to assure we have a smooth and successful Faire. 

Elijah Horland

Executive Producer

Elijah Horland is a maker, experimenter, and current student in the Interactive Telecommunications Program / Integrated Media Arts (ITP/IMA) community at NYU Tandon School of Engineering. A longtime part of the maker community, he has worked on projects ranging from retro technology and interactive art to questionable engineering experiments that somehow usually work. Elijah has helped grow Maker Faire Coney Island into a celebration of creativity, curiosity, and hands-on chaos, and can often be found collecting obsolete technology or turning simple ideas into overly ambitious projects.

Jonah Brucker-Cohen

Vice President, Education

Jonah Brucker-Cohen is an artist, writer, and Associate Professor at Lehman College / CUNY. He received his Ph.D. from Trinity College Dublin and his artwork has been exhibited at venues such as SFMOMA, Canadian Museum of Contemporary Art, MOMA, ZKM Museum, ICA London, Whitney Museum of American Art, Palais du Tokyo, Tate Modern, Ars Electronica, Transmediale, and more. His writing has appeared in publications such as WIRED and Make and his Scrapyard Challenge workshops have been held in over 15 countries on 5 continents.

Tesla Liu

Operations Department

I have always been interested in STEAM ever since I was younger and I’ve always been involved in some type of art my entire life. I’ve worked on Maker Faire for a year and I’ve loved the environment that it creates for people of all ages, from toddlers to the elderly, and everyone’s able to enjoy themselves whilst learning about other people’s projects and jobs.

Carina Lin

Operations Department

I have always valued environments where technical skill, creativity, and hands-on learning intersect. Maker Faire is one of the few places that gives equal spotlight to robotics, crafts, and 3D printing. Seeing someone’s face light up when they try an interactive exhibit–that’s what keeps me coming back. I’m looking forward to helping bring the Coney Island Maker Faire back and making this a great experience for all the makers and visitors.

Nikko Perlman

Education Department

I’m a student at Brooklyn Tech as a Physics major. I’ve been volunteering with Maker Faire for two years and was recruited to join the team in the Education Department earlier this year. Maker Faire allows me to help the youth explore the world of New York City robotics, engineering, programming, and innovation. I hope to establish the faire as a cornerstone of the city’s STEM community, and I’m honored to be able to work with the team in organizing it.

I’ve been with Coney Island Maker Faire for around three years and I’m currently a student at Stuyvesant High School. Technology and engineering have always been one of my interests and Maker Faire lets me and other likeminded individuals express their passion brings me joy. I’m looking forward to working on this year’s Coney Island Maker Faire and making it a better experience for all.

Since the fifth grade I have been fascinated by STEAM. I am fond of the technical science perspective alongside creative art. Maker Faire has opened my eyes to this combination of innovation and creation. I value the opportunity to help out an intelligent community. Here’s to a successful Maker Faire 2026!

I’m a Stuyvesant student as well as a Boy Scout. I’ve been with Maker Faire for three years now and I’ve had lots of fun being a part of the team! I love being able to see people show off their work and being able to show things off relating to STEM. Being a Scout Liaison allows me to further show opportunities like this to scouts like me around NYC.

I am a student at Stuyvesant High School, and I have been with Maker Faire the past three years, where I currently serve in the Outreach Department. I have always wanted to help create an event to bring people from all kinds of backgrounds together, and Maker Faire Coney Island does exactly that. It brings together people of all ages to learn, create, and experience something new. I’m excited to help make next year’s event even bigger and better than last year’s.

I am a lover of the arts (especially the performing arts) and have been involved with Maker Faire for about a year! Maker Faire is an amazing opportunity to showcase projects for creators and artists alike. It is absolutely amazing to see each Faire event come together.

I go to Bronx Science and joined the Maker Faire team just this year, but volunteered for last year’s event as well. It’s a really great experience; innovative people with all different sorts of skills and knowledge can bond over a love of STEM topics and art! Personally, I’ve had a penchant for creating things since I was younger. Being able to learn more about interesting topics and teach others as well is the reason that I joined Maker Faire. I hope to be a part of this event’s future as it continues to be an awe-inspiring place of community!
