Buoy, the Brooklyn Mermaid
Dive into music and imagination with Buoy’s Briny Bops—a 30-minute interactive preschool show where classic children’s songs get a fintastic ocean twist! Led by Buoy the Brooklyn Mermaid, little guppies will sing, dance, and learn about ocean life through bubbly, sea-themed versions of familiar favorites. With splashes of opera, playful movement, and under-the-sea storytelling, this show is perfect for ages 2–6 and guarantees a whale of a time!

What inspired you to make this project?
Buoy the Brooklyn Mermaid merges my lifelong connection to water with my career as an opera singer to create magical, community-rooted performances. Through song and storytelling, Buoy makes opera and myth accessible, inviting audiences of all ages to dream and find joy.
What are some of the challenges you have encountered and how did you address them?
In a time of arts and education funding cuts, one of the greatest challenges has been ensuring children still have meaningful access to music. With Buoy the Brooklyn Mermaid, I reimagine opera as playful storytelling and song, creating interactive performances that meet kids where they are in libraries, schools, and community spaces. By partnering with these organizations, I make high-quality music experiences accessible to families who might otherwise lose them, proving that music education is more vital than ever.
