Lectec

Electric Vehicles
We have crafted an innovative approach to learning by melding the excitement of building electric vehicles with the rigors of STEM education. Our Lectec electric vehicle kits enable students and enthusiasts to construct their own electric skateboard!

Jared Ebersole

Jared (23) has been an entrepreneur since the age of 15, creating his first company offering build-it-yourself (BIY) electric skateboard kits for adults (ridebkb.com). Last Christmas, he built an electric skateboard for his 7 year old nephew, Brian. Brian was so interested in how everything worked that Jared ended up taking the board apart to explain how everything came together to build the board he had so much fun on. And just like that, the idea for Lectec was born!

Luke St. Amand

Luke (23) has professional product and engineering experience with several companies, most recently at Amazon. He made the difficult decision to leave his stable job as an Amazon engineer to join Lectec full time with Jared, his best friend from college. He is passionate about encouraging the next generation to see all the amazing and fun possibilities of STEM fields early into their educational adventures!

Daniel Tellerman Maker Picture

Daniel Tellerman

Daniel (21) has spent several years working in marketing and management. He started skateboarding in middle school, quickly falling in love with riding and teaching other first-timers how to skate. A former Division 1 athlete, Daniel captained the men's rowing team at his university where he is currently working towards his MBA. Since the beginning of Lectec, Daniel has been passionate about pushing modern schooling into the future by innovating STEM education.

What inspired you to make this project?
Jared has been an entrepreneur since the age of 15, creating his first company offering build-it-yourself (BIY) electric skateboard kits for adults (ridebkb.com). Last Christmas, he built an electric skateboard for his 7 year old nephew, Brian. The first thing that Brain did when he got the skateboard was start to try and take it apart, asking "how does this work? What does this do?" Jared ended up taking the board apart and explained how everything worked. As Brian's mom (Jared's sister) watched, an idea hit her: Why not make skateboards for kids and teach them about engineering! Jared was immediately hooked, and just like that, the idea for Lectec was born!

What are some of the challenges you have encountered and how did you address them?
Teaching engineering concepts at scale and trying to fit into several different environments (ie: schools, camps, D2C) has been the biggest challenge that we have faced. However, we are very proud to have overcome the most difficult part of this obstacle by developing our LMS, partnering with curriculum specialists, and creating educational content ourselves. Now we are able to deploy our kits and curriculum across the globe by utilizing our accessible technology.
