Scarab: Environmental Data Collection Robot

Travis Hughes
I've been into robotics for as long as I can remember. When I was younger, I loved to take apart anything electronic, study it and reassemble it and now as an adult, I'm building Arduino-based robots in my free time. I'm very happy to be alive in this period in time because I believe that we (humanity) are in the begining of a tech/robotics, Industrial Revolution and that we have the ability to use current and emerging technology to make the world a better place for everyone living in it. My personal mission with tech/robotics is to make it more accessible and to inspire others to unlock their own inner maker, developer or engineer. Eventually, my hope is that I can one day do something that helps push the human race even a milimeter closer to becoming a Type 1 Civilization.

What inspired you to make this project?
Scarab's development was inspired by my friend Mandy, who made me realize that the frame pieces that I was using for a wearable robotic arm project I'd been working on for fun, could also be used to build legs if rearranged a little. It was also inspired by a lifetime of watching NASA (and more recently SpaceX) launches and an urge to create something that I couldn't ignore. It's sensor array is inspired by the Mars Rover and me wanting to a robot that could be used for scientific research.
